Making the right decisions.

Understanding your fertility.

Before considering treatment, it is important to first understand where you stand, what is happening in your body, and what options are available to you. This is exactly what a fertility assessment provides: a thorough evaluation of your situation so you can move forward with clarity. At Miacleo, the entire process takes place within our clinic: ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, laboratory fertilization, embryo monitoring, embryo transfer, embryo biopsy, and cryopreservation. Everything happens here, with the same team supporting you from beginning to end.

When is it time to consult a fertility clinic?

A fertility consultation is recommended if:
You are under 35 and have not achieved a pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse;
You are 35 or older and have not achieved a pregnancy after 6 months under the same conditions;
You are able to become pregnant but have difficulty carrying pregnancies to term;
You have a known medical history that may affect your fertility (endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, hormonal disorders, vasectomy, pelvic surgery, etc.);
You are a single person or an LGBTQ+ couple who would like to begin a family-building journey;
Or you wish to delay your plans for parenthood while preserving your fertility potential.

Other tests available at Miacleo

For Women

BLOOD TESTING : Blood tests help evaluate your reproductive hormones and overall health. Testing may include Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), which provides information about ovarian reserve; Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and estradiol (E2), which are indicators of ovarian function; Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and prolactin (PRL), as imbalances can affect fertility; as well as other markers depending on your medical history.
PELVIC ULTRASOUND: A transvaginal pelvic ultrasound provides a detailed assessment of your reproductive anatomy. It allows evaluation of the uterus, ovaries, and antral follicle count (AFC), a direct indicator of ovarian reserve, while also identifying potential abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, or cysts.
FALLOPIAN TUBE PATENCY TESTING: Depending on your situation, your physician may recommend a saline infusion sonohysterography (SIS) or hysterosalpingography (HSG) to determine whether your fallopian tubes are open and functioning properly. These tests are essential to assess your ability to conceive naturally and help guide treatment decisions.

For Men

BLOOD TESTING: Blood tests may be prescribed to evaluate male reproductive hormones and rule out certain hormonal causes of infertility.
COMPREHENSIVE SEMEN ANALYSIS: A semen analysis is the standard assessment of sperm, but at Miacleo, we go further. Our Quad semen analysis is a comprehensive four-part evaluation that includes sperm concentration and motility, morphology, vitality, and DNA fragmentation testing. This last parameter is particularly important: high DNA fragmentation can negatively impact fertilization and embryo quality, even when other sperm parameters appear normal.

After your assessment

Once your results have been compiled, your physician will meet with you to review them and discuss the findings. This consultation is also an opportunity to explore the options available to you. In some cases, a simple hormonal treatment may be recommended. In others, assisted reproductive technology (intrauterine insemination, IVF, or donor gametes) may be considered. Every fertility journey is unique. Our role is to help you navigate yours with the most accurate and complete information possible.

Q: Is a fertility assessment covered by RAMQ?

A: Some tests (blood tests and ultrasounds) may be covered depending on your eligibility. Certain genetic tests are covered under specific conditions. Contact our team to clarify your situation before your consultation.

Q: Do I need to come with my partner?

A: It is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended when a male factor may be involved. The fertility assessment can be completed for both partners at the same time, which helps speed up the process and avoids additional appointments.

Q: How long does the assessment process take?

A: The assessment is generally completed over the course of a few weeks, depending on your cycle and the results obtained. Your physician will provide you with a detailed timeline during your first consultation.

Q: Do I need a referral from a family doctor?

A: A medical referral can facilitate the process, but it is not required to schedule an appointment. Contact us directly, and our team will guide you through the next steps.
