Having a Child as a Single Woman

Having a child is a deep desire for many women, whether they are in a relationship or single. For single women, this journey may seem complex, but it is entirely possible thanks to significant advancements in assisted reproduction.

Our team fully understands the importance of this dream and is committed to supporting each woman with compassion and expertise throughout her path to motherhood.

Initial Assessment

The first step for a single woman wanting to have a child is to consult a fertility specialist. This comprehensive consultation helps establish a personalized treatment plan. Here are the main steps in this evaluation:

  • Fertility assessment: It includes a series of hormonal tests to evaluate ovarian function.
  • Gynecological exams: A complete examination to check overall reproductive health.
  • Fallopian tube permeability tests: These tests ensure that the fallopian tubes are open and functional.
  • Ovarian reserve evaluation: Through ultrasounds and hormonal tests, the number and quality of remaining eggs can be estimated.

Choosing a Sperm Donor

Once the initial assessment is complete, women must choose a sperm donor from two options:

  • Known donor: This could be a friend or acquaintance. However, recruiting a known donor is often limited in public clinics.
  • Accredited sperm bank: Most women opt for this solution. Sperm banks offer a wide selection of donors with detailed information about their health and medical history. The sperm used at the Miracleo clinic comes from donors who have donated to sperm banks inspected and compliant with Health Canada standards.

Available Treatments

Several treatment options are available for single women wishing to conceive:

  • Artificial insemination with donor sperm: This is often the first technique used. It involves introducing the donor’s sperm directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation. This process usually begins with medication to stimulate the ovaries, followed by ultrasound monitoring to assess progress and schedule the insemination. Ovulation is triggered by medication, and 36 hours later, insemination takes place. This procedure is simple and painless.
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF): If artificial insemination fails after several attempts or if additional infertility factors are present, IVF may be considered. This treatment involves ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization in the lab, and then embryo transfer.

Support

We provide professional and personalized support at every step of the process. Once pregnancy is confirmed, regular medical follow-ups with the patient’s doctor are established to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
