Embryology
Does lying down after an embryo transfer increase my chances of pregnancy?
False. Two studies published in 2013 and 2016 showed the opposite effect.
In the 2013 study, the live birth rate was significantly higher among women who did not remain lying down after embryo transfer. The miscarriage rate, although not statistically significant, was also lower among these patients.
In the 2016 study, there was no difference in live birth rates or clinical pregnancy rates between the two groups. However, the implantation rate was lower among women who remained lying down for 10–15 minutes after the transfer.

Should I take Endometrin or Prometrium on the morning of my embryo transfer?
Yes. Do not stop any medication unless instructed or authorized by your physician or nurse.
What is the difference between a day 3 and a day 5 embryo? Are pregnancy success rates the same?
Embryo transfers can take place at two different stages of development: day 3 or day 5. At Miacleo, we favor day 5 embryo transfers.
On day 3, the embryo contains between 6 and 14 cells. By day 5, the embryo has developed into a blastocyst, which contains hundreds of cells that allow embryologists to better assess its quality. Blastocysts go through six stages of development, and their quality is graded A, B, or C.
Scientific literature shows higher pregnancy success rates with blastocyst transfers compared with day 3 embryo transfers. In fact, approximately half of good-quality day 3 embryos will continue developing into blastocysts by day 5.
From day 0 to day 3, cell division is driven primarily by the genetic material from the egg. Starting around day 4, the sperm’s DNA begins to be expressed, allowing embryos to continue developing into blastocysts. This is the most critical stage of embryo development, during which the greatest selection occurs.
This is why, at Miacleo, we favor day 5 embryo transfers.
Frozen embryo transfers (FET) result in fewer pregnancies than fresh embryo transfers (FET).
False. There is no significant difference in pregnancy rates between fresh and frozen embryo transfers. Some studies have even shown slightly higher pregnancy rates with frozen embryo transfers.
Is there an expiration date for frozen gametes or embryos?
No. Once vitrified and stored in liquid nitrogen, gametes and embryos can remain preserved for many years. There is no defined expiration date for cryopreservation. Recently, a woman received a transfer of an embryo that had been frozen for 25 years.

How long should I wait before scheduling a follow-up appointment after completing the requested tests?
We ask that you schedule a follow-up appointment 4 to 6 weeks after your tests are completed. During this appointment, our nurses will review your file and discuss the next steps with you.
Are there waiting lists for treatments such as IVF, IUI, or embryo transfers once my file is complete?
Once your file is complete, you will be able to begin your treatment right away. At this time, there are no waiting lists. If a waiting list is created in the future, we will inform you as quickly as possible.
Do you accept new patients?
Yes, we accept new patients, even without a referral from a physician.
Who can request an appointment at your clinic?
Our services are available to single individuals, heterosexual couples, LGBTQ+ couples, and anyone wishing to preserve their fertility.
Our services are offered to patients with or without RAMQ coverage.
How do I register with Miacleo Fertility Clinic?
Simply book an appointment here. You will automatically be added to our waiting list and will receive a confirmation email.
How long is the wait before the first appointment?

What is the maximum age to register with your clinic?
The maximum age to register with our clinic is 50 years old.
Is there a minimum age?
The minimum age to register with our clinic is 18 years old.
If I have already completed the process at another clinic, can I still request an appointment at your clinic?
Yes, you can submit a request to Miacleo even if you have already completed part of your fertility journey at another clinic.
Can I transfer my file from another clinic to Miacleo?
Yes. When you are contacted for your first appointment, you can send us your documents in PDF format. If you do not have access to your records, we will provide you with a consent form authorizing us to request your file from your previous clinic.
Will I have to repeat all the tests?
During your first appointment, your physician will review your medical history with you and determine whether any additional tests are needed based on your file.
What does the first appointment involve?
During your first appointment, the physician will review your medical history, answer your questions, and determine with you which tests may be needed.
Afterwards, a nurse will explain the recommended tests and the next steps in detail and answer any additional questions you may have.
Can I book an appointment for assisted reproduction?
Yes, you can book an appointment for assisted reproduction. Please follow the same registration process as for a request to join the Miacleo Fertility Clinic.
Can I book an appointment if I have had a vasectomy?
Yes, you can book an appointment. Please follow the same registration process as for a request to join the Miacleo Fertility Clinic.
General questions
Are there any BMI restrictions?
We do not discriminate based on body mass index (BMI). However, your physician may recommend additional tests and suggest a 5 to 10% weight reduction from your initial weight to help support a healthy pregnancy.
We also need to ensure that ultrasound imaging is adequate and safe throughout your treatment.
Can I purchase a donor from Xytex?
Xytex is not part of the Québec assisted reproduction program. You can purchase donor sperm through Can-Am Cryoservices.
If you choose to purchase from Xytex, you will be responsible for covering the full cost of the purchase.
Can I have a semen analysis done at your clinic?
At this time, semen analysis services are not available at Miacleo.
Which sperm and egg banks do you work with?
For sperm, all banks can arrange delivery to Miacleo Fertility Clinic. However, some banks, such as Xytex, are not covered by the Québec government assisted reproduction program. In these cases, you will be responsible for the costs associated with purchasing the sample.
For eggs, Miacleo is accredited to work with Fairfax Egg Bank and Cryos International.
Do you have a psychologist you can refer us to?
We can refer you to a psychologist who works with our patients currently receiving care at Miacleo Fertility Clinic.
How does the Québec government RAMQ program work?

Do you offer egg freezing?
Yes, Miacleo offers egg freezing services.
Sperm straws refund
If you paid the full cost of your sperm vial, either for an intrauterine insemination (IUI) or an IVF cycle covered by RAMQ, please send your invoice to facturation@miacleo.com. Reimbursement for the sperm vial will be processed after the RAMQ-covered procedure has been completed (either IUI or IVF). Please allow 7 business days for your request to be processed.
